Preserving Access to Rural Care

At only 17 people per square mile, New Mexico is among America’s least densely populated states. Fully 29 of NMHA’s 45 member hospitals serve frontier, rural, or micropolitan areas, underscoring the non-urban nature of this vast state. Faced with aging and declining populations, regulatory and financial threats at the federal level, and fragile community economies, hospitals seek a path to assure access to care for the populations they serve.
