Equity of Care

The New Mexico Hospital Association has proudly taken the pledge to participate in the American Hospital Association’s #123forEquity Campaign

We share in the focus on:

  • Increasing the collection and use of race, ethnicity and language preference data;
  • Increasing cultural competency training; and
  • Increasing diversity in governance and leadership.

NMHA is partnered with the New Mexico Healthcare Executives working group on Diversity and Inclusion.

In collaboration with NMHA, NMHA surveyed its members using the AHA Diversity and Disparities survey. Click for a report of AHA’s 2013 benchmark study.

AHA also offers a Toolkit for Eliminating Health Care Disparities

Another useful resource comes from the Institute for Health Improvement, on Achieving Health Equity.

Nicholas Tejeda, CEO for the Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus and a board member of AHA’s Institute for Diversity, presented the luncheon keynote at NMHA’s 71st Annual Meeting.

NMHA continues to meet with community stakeholders to determine best practices in the collection of race, ethnicity, language and gender identification data. For more information, or to share ideas, please contact Beth Landon at blandon@nmhsc.com .
